An exciting opportunity has arisen within the IT Department for a Data Protection Officer. Reporting to the Head of IT Security, Risk & Compliance, the successful candidate will act as a Data Protection subject matter expert. The successful candidate will drive compliance to best practice privacy, risk and compliance standards, including GDPR and related standards and processes, ensuring that these practices deliver a satisfactory compliance position across the full spectrum of DAA’s business processes. Working on a team of IT security & data protection specialists, and working closely with technical teams responsible for IT, this role will assess the company’s information systems and processes, and assist in the development of appropriate policies, processes, procedures and standards.

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Data Privacy (inc. Permissions), IT or Information Security
  • Experience working in a dynamic Service environment – both technical and business – serving a large and demanding organisation
  • Bachelors/Master’s Degree or equivalent with Privacy Certification such as CIPPE, CIPM, and / or Security Certifications such as CISSP, CISA or CISM
  • Proven track record in Data Privacy, Risk Management, Information Security, and Information Assurance & Auditing
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management and communications, with excellent report writing and presentation skills to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Exposure to development of Security Incident response capabilities
  • Experience in developing security awareness and training programmes across diverse channels in a challenging and busy 24/7 environment
  • Experience in managing Data Protection / Security and Compliance Assessments for a company with significant regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of developing and deploying, and tracking remediation actions

  • Be accountable for ensuring that daa understands its Data Protection obligations and has created and communicated appropriate policies and procedures to achieve and maintain compliance
  • Maintain the Personal Data Processing Register and supporting documentation as formal records of processing operations
  • Ensure that appropriate procedures and templates are in place to support Data Protection compliance (such as Impact Assessment procedures) and that appropriate training & support is provided to stakeholders
  • Provide Quality Assurance over the standard of deliverables, such as Impact Assessment Reports, by reviewing the relevant documents & providing feedback to stakeholders
  • Monitor the implementation of appropriate technical and organisational measures to oversee delivery of compliance with Data Protection regulation & legislation
  • Be empowered to investigate any suspected non-compliances in an independent manner, and report any finding to appropriate stakeholders at senior levels of daa
  • Implement an awareness and training programme for Data Protection to enable stakeholders to identify a Data Protection breach or IT Security incident, should one arise
  • Provide Compliance Monitoring reporting to Executive Management and / or the Board on a periodic basis
  • In addition, the DPO will work closely with the Head of IT Security to guide the company in implementing the wider risk and compliance strategy, recommending improvements in security, privacy, and other IT and business controls.
  • Developing and managing an Incident Response capability for data protection and information security incidents across IT and the wider business
  • Managing risk profile – assess, evaluate and document data and information risk on an ongoing basis so that Management are fully aware – report on Risk within the corporate Risk process on a quarterly basis
