    This role

    This permanent Category Analyst role sits as part of a commercial finance team reporting directly to the Head of Commercial Finance (all based in ARI’s head office in Grattan House, Dublin 17). In this role you will support the Commercial function (Buying, Logistic & planning) by providing high quality data and analysis across budget performance, sales performance and margin and investment. This analysis will be focused across Category, Supplier, Sku & Store level. You will add commercial value by identifying trends, challenges & opportunities and by signalling issues that need rectifying.

     

    Another key focus in this role will be to support Buyers during the annual Supplier negotiations by providing high quality pricing analysis, which allows the Buyers to conclude the best possible deal. You will also analyse and suggest margin enhancing opportunities in terms of global pricing, T&C and in investment synergies that can be made.

     

    The candidate

    This Category Analyst role will suit someone with at least two years’ experience working in a commercial or financial analyst type role within another retail organisation. In order to succeed in this role you must have hands on experience analysing & interpreting performance data and commercial offers and statistics. You should also look to proactively identify commercial opportunities to drive commercial decision making.

     

    Qualifications

     

    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a commercially focused analytical role
    • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills are required
    • Experience in Travel Retail and category would be preferred
    • Previous experience using Targit desirable
    • Proactive approach to work and have the ability to work off your own initiative to scrutinize performance and come with suggestions, rather than wait to be asked
    • Has confidence to challenge managers and can provide leadership when introducing new ways of working
    • Team player who is flexible and adaptable in their approach to suit the audience

     

    Responsibilities

     

    • Provide agreed core suite of reports to category on specific performance analysis and also a complete ad hoc reports and make commentary on results found to agreed frequency
    • Weekly meetings with Commercial & Category team to communicate performance, providing challenge and monitoring progress on a weekly basis.
    • Support the range review process by providing performance data to insights for support Buyers making listing & delisting.
    • Put in place a standardized process to ensure Buyers are able to correctly check margins on NPD which follows the category strategy and does not dilute Supplier or category average margin
    • Put in place a standardized process which allows Buyers to ensure promotional mechanics / rebates are not margin diluting. Complete pre and post promotional analysis and reports back on results weekly
    • Support the bid process by providing accurate margin and category information as required from existing business.
    • Support the tracking and development and tracking of Sell through where required.
    • Support new business with Open to buys, margin modelling and forecasting.
    • Develops a template to analyse upside of price management, payment terms, investment levels and promotional rebates for Category and in restructure and consolidation.
    • Work with the regions and pricing manager to gather buying prices, RSP’s and investment levels, pricing upside and tracks them as required.
    • Provide data and analysis during the annual Supplier negotiation process. Create a standardized way of doing this and sits with the Buying team in negotiation if required
    • Challenge & drive improvements in current processes & controls. Play an active and influential role in promoting financial impact and awareness within the business.
