Overview

Working within the daa Infrastructure Department for Dublin and Cork, the Sustainability Manager will provide strategic thinking, advice and guidance to the Contracting Entity as well as overseeing and assuring the designs being carried out by the various design teams with respect to sustainability requirements. The Manager will be required to work with and support the various design disciplines across the Programmes and will serve a key co-ordination role in ensuring there is a consistent approach to the implementation of sustainability standards in the designs and contract documentation.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Environmental Science or Engineering professional with experience and knowledge of sustainability management systems and sustainable design.
  • 10+ years’ experience in the implementation of Sustainability Management across infrastructure programmes of significant size and complexity, preferably within aviation.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the design and delivery requirements of technically complex projects in the architectural / engineering / construction sectors.
  • Experience and knowledge of relevant national and international policies and legislation with regard to sustainability.
  • Experience of implementing LEED, BREEAM or other accreditation systems on infrastructure projects.
  • Experience of auditing, reporting and implementation of subsequent corrective actions.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills to manage and motivate teams in and outside of Infrastructure to embed sustainability management values and culture.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Outstanding track record of improvement and delivery.
  • Excellent presentation and reporting skills.
  • Ability to manage client expectations and deliver within agreed parameters.

Responsibilities

The Sustainability Manager will drive all aspects of sustainability management across the Infrastructure Department’s Infrastructure Portfolio including items listed below:

 

  • Representing and providing the Infrastructure Department with advice on sustainability, providing strategic thinking and advisory services.
  • Carry out early-stage analysis and leading technical coordination with the design teams on energy issues and collaboration on design development.
  • Support the design teams as required to ensure implementation of daa’s policies on Sustainability Management including the following elements:
    • NZEB, Low/Net Zero Carbon/Energy Building design strategies
    • Regulatory compliance checks & input to planning process
    • Input to LEED, BREEAM, ILFI & Well certification
    • Climate risk assessment
    • Building life-cycle assessment
    • Engagement with local authorities/public bodies where required
    • Sustainability master planning
    • Embodied carbon calculations

 

  • Bring experience and knowledge to all of the Programmes with regard to sustainability management
  • Promote and raise environmental awareness throughout the Infrastructure Department and the wider organisation.
  • Upskill the existing team, develop skills and embed a culture of learning with regard to sustainability.
  • Liaise with sustainability design team members and work closely with the Dublin Airport Energy Manager on energy performance and carbon management.
  • Support the Contracting Entity in driving the Infrastructure Department’s environmental programme and enhanced sustainability performance in line with the daa’s strategies and policies.
  • Review of CEMPs prepared by the various Contractors.
  • Support the Project Managers and Site teams in ensuring the effective implementation of the CEMPs on site.
  • Coordinate and support site audits on sustainability performance and implementation
  • Ensure documentation and reporting of findings identified through audits and inspections are structured to enable timely and targeted actions.
  • Input at tender review and approval stage in relation to sustainability standards, performance, and deliverables.
